For my found audio project, I attempted to re envision my past. Throughout the track, waves splashing on the beach is played. At first, I wanted to capture the feeling of relaxation, and I believe that the sounds of the beach did this perfectly, but overtime, the waves speed up. By the end of the audio clip, they are very frantic. I wanted this to resemble my carefree childhood, and how over time, there is less relaxation, and more stress. You may have also noticed the clicks throughout my audio's timeline. This resembles time. Now, most people would argue that time is constant, and I would agree with them, but these clicks in particular represent the importance of time as you grow older. When you're young, the time of the day doesn't matter nearly as much as when you are old. As you grow older, you almost always have appointments, dates, places to be, things to do, and all of these rely on what o'clock it is.
Other pieces of my project are not played throughout the edit. The echoing “Hello” at the beginning is my entry into the world, or my birth. “Smoking is prohibited” and “Prohibited” represent most of the authorities in my life. They are very commanding, and the repetition reminded me of how often I feared punishment during my childhood, because I was far from rebellious. Then I repeated “Smoking” over and over again. This represents my peers and the pressure they have put on myself. This is supposed to be both a good and a bad thing, because although sometimes the friends I have tell me to make bad decisions, they often push me to try new things as well. Then there is the distinct door closing at the end. I felt that this was a good way to represent the idea that I can not change the decisions I've made, and there is no turning back now.
